Tahyo Tavern – New Orleans

What is a Tahyo? It is a Cajun word used to describe a “big, hungry dog” and that’s what we have, a lot of hungry dogs to feed. The Tahyo Tavern is a business that we created to help fund our non-profit dog rescue, Villalobos Rescue Center, located in the Upper 9th Ward. Starting around 20 years ago as a wolf and wolf hybrid rescue, we would eventually take on another much maligned type of canine: the Pit Bull. Rescuing the most abused breed of dog in the world became a heartbreaking yet rewarding task. Then in 2010, we went on a life changing journey: moving to Louisiana. Our main facility is located in the Upper 9th Ward, where we were quickly dubbed the “Dog Pound of the 9th Ward” and soon we became an “all breed rescue”. Now home to approximately 300 dogs (at our various locations throughout the state) we struggle financially. The Tahyo Tavern motto: “You drink, They eat” For every drink you consume, you feed one of our dogs for a day. Raise your glass (or bottle of beer) and bark, bay or howl, because it’s all for the dogs!
